The Jabulani Cultural Evening took place on Friday the 11th of May. The theme for this year was “YOU MATTER” and the night began with all the “Jabs” girls walking down the isle in the dark holding candles and singing softly and a background of voices introducing the theme. The planning for this event began at the beginning of September last year and all the hard work and effort was clearly displayed throughout the night.
Performances came from schools all over Cape Town, including our very own Jabulani Girls, Rondebosch Boys’, SACS, Malibu High, Camps Bay High, Wynberg Girls’ and Claremont High as well as guest performances from Kingdom Kings, Nostalgia 6 and the H20 Gang. These performances were all variations of singing, dancing and poetry and were so incredible that many of them received standing ovations.
The event was three hours long with a short interval in the middle, but the night passed quickly. The Kemp Hall was filled with everything from chills and tears to singing, dancing and cheering. There was so much spirit and support from all the schools there and it really felt as if we were united. For anyone who says that Rustenburg doesn’t have spirit, you were clearly not there on Friday night!
